FIT! SENIOR FITNESS CLUB
For the past year I’ve gathered background knowledge on a variety of different fitness gyms and programs.
I’ve been a member of several larger California gyms over the years including the Channel Islands YMCA in Ventura and recently 24 Hour Fitness in Oxnard. These facilities are open to all ages and, of course, include seniors as members. Especially at the Y, certain aqua classes, Golden Zumba, Silver Sneakers and core & balance classes are aimed at seniors. BodyPump and tai chi classes also attract a large number of older members.
As part of my research into smaller facilities that have combination cardio & strength training programs, I joined CrossFit in Ventura for two months and I joined Orangetheory Fitness in Camarillo for two months. They are both widely embraced and enjoyed by their clients and in each a person regularly attending can get fit and stay fit. Yet, I came away with the realization that although a senior such as myself was always welcome at both, the classes were aimed towards younger members. And because there was such a scarcity of older clients, this made sense.
Thus, I’ve come to envision a one-of-a-kind studio designed specifically for active 50+ seniors who wish to get fit and stay fit. Its name would be: Fit! Senior Fitness Club.
If such a club would open, here is how I would promote its Member Benefits:
It features Small Group Training of 3-8 persons for both our 60-minute Daily All-Round Workout & 40-minute Senior HIIT classes given at several popular times of the day. You’ll get the enthusiasm of a group workout with the individual attention of a personal coach—all the while elevating your fitness level.
Our terrific Coaches are certified, experienced, encouraging and specially trained at coaching seniors. As a new member, you’ll receive a personal 2-hour Inaugural Session with a coach before you begin classes to acquaint you with our equipment and training methods. And in the classes your coaches will assist you in obtaining the proper form and execution for each movement all the while stressing your safety. Our coaches are dedicated to helping you meet your fitness goals.
In addition the club offers at no extra cost yoga and tai chi classes.
You’ll join a community of like-minded people who want to get fit and stay fit for the rest of their lives.
Fit! Senior Fitness Club is designed for physically active seniors at all fitness levels: from Beginners who consider themselves healthy but at low overall fitness levels, to Intermediates who consider themselves relatively fit, up to Advanced who train on a daily basis. Our coaches will provide you with options that allow you to safely perform movements scaled for your particular fitness level.

Fit! Senior Fitness Club Programs
Daily All-Round Workout: 60-minute sessions given several times daily for 3-8 persons per coach.
- Cardio & Strength combined in a fun session that changes every day.
- Besides cardio & multiplanar strength training, the workout includes a warm-up, core exercises, balance training and a cool-down.
- Equipment includes treadmills, rowing machines, indoor bikes, free weights and benches, barbells, kettlebells, TRX Suspension, and resistance bands.
Senior HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training): 40-minute sessions given daily for 3-8 persons per coach.
In this training technique you’ll give all-out effort through quick, intense bursts of exercise followed by short active recovery periods. This training gets and keeps your heart rate up and burns more fat in less time. Exercises change every day.
Burn 300 to 600 calories in just 40 minutes plus benefit from the HIIT afterburn.

Fit! Senior Fitness Club Coaches
Our Daily All-Round Workout and Senior HIIT coaches are:
- Personal Trainer Certified with nationally recognized certifications such as ACSM, ACE, NSCA and ASFA or a university degree in physical education.
- Senior Specialty Certified and qualified to safely train men and women over age 50. They also know how to incorporate appropriate modifications & techniques to prevent muscle loss, improve bone strength and quality of life. They can also design programs to combat the effects of osteoporosis, arthritis and age-specific conditions.
- Experienced with at least two years training seniors.
- Friendly and enthusiastic.
- Expert at creating a program based on your objectives, abilities and health status.
- Encouraging of you and your goals and progress.
Our Yoga & Tai Chi Instructors are also certified in their specialties and have had extensive experience working with seniors.
